The holiday season — without a doubt the busiest, most profitable time of the year. In fact, according to research conducted by American Express last year, one-third of U.S. small businesses reported Q4 is where they render one-third of their annual profits. And this lucrative season transcends beyond small businesses into the industry of big-box names that know the rush of shoppers are coming in the masses. The great thing about this? Businesses across the country, and across the globe, get to harness their creative abilities to drive revenue in numbers, unlike any others throughout the year! And somehow, every holiday season, it’s as if we find ourselves waking up with a certain tune from a certain brand in our head and we’re off to the retailer. That is the beauty of a catchy holiday jingle. And we’re here to share the most popular holiday jingles that have emerged over the decades. Read on to get them stuck in your head too!
Silent Night from Pampers (2006)
Cute babies sleeping set to arguably the most popular Christmas song of all time? Sometimes it’s as simple as that. 30 seconds of peace-inducing tunes in the midst of the chaos of Christmas shopping? Sign us up! Not only did this remind sleepless parents to buy diapers (Get this– Pampers grossed a whopping $40 million dollars from the commercial alone!), but it’ll remind you to shop for those gray hair-inducing toys to open Christmas morning!
Fun fact about this commercial: Pampers pledged one tetanus vaccine for third-world children per pack of diapers purchased. And by 2008, over 40 million vaccines had been administered.
Jingle Hoops by NBA (2013)
Superstar basketball players, a classic holiday carol, and bells hanging from a net. It sounds outlandish enough, but the second you watch this holiday commercial promoting special holiday NBA jerseys, not only will you be trying to make free throws to the beat of Jingle Bells but you’ll be attempting them *in* the jersey because you’ve already made your purchase. This commercial was such a success, it reemerged across social media platforms during the 2020 holiday seasons, earning it over 35 million views on Youtube alone and a gross profit of $27 million in strictly holiday jersey sales.
Holiday Kisses from Hershey’s (1989)
If green, red, and silver Hershey’s Kisses weren’t a holiday staple in your household, we’re convinced you’re living under a rock — especially after the airing of this commercial with the symphonic jingle of Kisses back in 1989. This jingle harnessed so many views that it’s had 3 remakes and permanent air time every holiday since its original release. With that kind of impact, you can imagine the revenue that proceeded. Celebrating its 30th birthday in 2019, Hershey’s has grossed $118 million in Christmas-branded Kisses alone — and we have a very strong feeling it has a lot to do with this jingle, with one Youtube viewer commenting, “I look forward to that commercial every Christmas! It reminds me to buy my year supply! I swear the green wrapping makes it taste better! “ And we’re right there with you, candy bag in tow.
